Biography Database

Volunteers from across the country have researched and written over 300 fully-referenced biographies relating to the lives of those inmates found in workhouses on the 1881 census.
As the first and potentially largest UK-based collection of its kind, offering researchers easy access to previously non-digitised records, the collection of biographies is now stored in an open database to aid development within the fields of welfare and workhouse research.

The use of an open-access database to store the biographies will also improve public access, hopefully leading to an increase in interest in welfare collections.
